Thrips-iD – Dr. Manfred R. Ulitzka’s website on Thysanoptera
Nomina si nescis, perit cognitio rerum (Carl Linnaeus)
If you know not the names of things, the knowledge of things themselves perishes
In the sense of Linnaeus’s quotation, iD stands for identification. This website focuses on species of Thysanoptera, their taxonomy, and the ecology of these insects, also known as thrips. In addition to general information about the order Thysanoptera, you will find numerous details on both recent and fossil species, illustrated by more than 1,500 photographs that provide detailed insight into these tiny yet fascinating insects.
You will also find information on my entomological research — in particular, on my previous projects, publications, lectures, and my extensive collection of thrips.
Under Service, you will find relevant offers concerning thrips sample analysis, species identification, as well as courses and lectures.
The section Damage Symptoms presents feeding damage caused by more than 30 species that occur as plant pests.
